V, X, Y and Z Trench Motar Batteries, 23rd Div, Royal Artillery were situated in the northern part of the line during the Battle of Messines around the area of Hill60 and The Caterpillar mines.
- V.23 Heavy Trench Mortar Battery was formed in March 1916 and was disbanded in late October 1917
- X.23 Medium Trench Mortar Battery was raised as 12th TM Bty in 1915 and joined the 23rd Division in January 1916, being redesignated as X Battery in March 1916
- Y.23 Medium Trench Mortar Battery was raised as 21st TM batt in 1915 and joined the 23rd Division in January 1916 being redesignated as Y Battery on 15 March 1916
- Z.23 Medium Trench Mortar Battery was formed in March 1916 and initially was armed with French 58mm mortars.
