109th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps served with the 36th (Ulster) Division at the Battle of Messines in 1917.

They set up an Advanced Dressing Station close to the main road at Lindenhoek, linked to the Regimental Aid Posts by trench tramways, which delivered the wounded to the north side of the shelter. On the western side a semi-circular drive was constructed to allow ambulance cars to drive in and out without turning, as they collected those needing to be transported to the Main Dressing Station just east of Dranoutre, which was staffed by the 108th Field Ambulance. Walking wounded made their own way along a track to the Main Dressing Station a mile to the east, which was manned by the 110th Field Ambulance. From the Dressing Stations, those needing further treatment were transported by the Motor Ambulance Park one of two Casualty Clearing Stations in Bailleul.
